Sonya Sawtell-Rickson

Chief Investment Officer, HESTA

Sonya was appointed to the role of Chief Investment Officer of HESTA in July 2017 and is responsible for overseeing the $76 billion investment program on behalf of HESTA’s 1 million members (as at 28 September 2023).  

Sonya has over 20 years’ experience in the investment management and financial services industry. Prior to HESTA, Sonya was an Investment Director at QIC – one of Australia’s largest institutional fund managers. In this role, she led a global multi-asset team, managing diversified portfolios in excess of $45 billion.

Sonya currently serves as a Director of the Investor Group for Climate Change (IGCC), is a Member of the IFM Shareholder Advisory Board, and is a Board Member of the Australian Advisory Board on Technology & Healthcare Competitiveness. Sonya is also an Executive Member of the Australia/New Zealand Chapter of the Bloomberg Women’s Buy Side Network and a Member of Chief Executive Women.

Sonya holds a Masters of Applied Finance, a Bachelor of Arts (Economics & Political Science), is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.
